Penhallow is a bit of an odd duck in the Georgette Heyer canonnot historical fiction, not a serious novel (like the worst of her oeuvre), not really a murder mysterymore of a genre novel with some violence but no detecting.

It is set in Cornwall in a vague present day (present referring towhen it was published, though there is no mention /5. Penhallow (Country House Mysteries Book 10) - Kindle edition by Heyer, Georgette.

Much of the book consists of unpleasant exchanges between ever-revolving combinations from among Penhallow, his numerous offspring and in-laws, servants, and wife number two. Some of the nastiness is rather delicious, but enough is enough and too much quickly becomes tedious.

Penhallow has been very different though. It's much darker with no sympathetic characters and was very slow reading for me.
